Quote Philosophy

The PHS Baseball program relies a lot on quotes to inspire thought and learning. We end each practice plan with a quote and we take 5-10 minutes at the end of each practice to talk about those quotes and how it relates to baseball and life. Below are some examples of quotes we have used in the past.

“A nation’s culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people” -Gandhi

“Of all the hazards, Fear is the worst”- Sam Snead

“Success is where preparation and opportunity meet”

“ ‘Every Joint Supplies’ In other words, the human body has many different parts, but they all have a useful purpose. The little finger has just as important a role as the big toe or your knee.”

“Safety and comfort comes with complacency, and that's never a good place to be working from.”

“You can observe a lot just by watching” Yogi Berra

“If you are not fired with enthusiasm, you will be fired with enthusiasm”

“You see it in the drive-through at Wendy’s. Some people actually care about what they’re doing and some don’t. I care. Everybody ‘cares’, but it’s obvious some care a lot more than others. It just seems like the ones that care the most are the ones that stay around the longest” -Greg Maddux

“Being ‘good’ isn’t the greatest thought. The only thing that counts is whether you are getting better at a more rapid rate than your principle competitors. “

Fear to Change is the enemy of success

“There are three types of baseball players: Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen and those who wonder what happens.” -Tommy Lasorda

“Fine Tune your mind and stay focused”

“Progressive Improvement… is better than Postponed Perfection”

A Ship In A Harbor Is Safe, But That’s Not What Ships Are For

“He that has satisfied his thirst turns his back on the well.”
― Baltasar Gracián

Never give up, and be confident in what you do. There may be tough times, but the difficulties which you face will make you more determined to achieve your objectives and to win against all the odds. -Marta
